Transportation

The EVSC's Office of Bus Transportation is open from 5:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. To contact someone in the EVSC Bus Transportation Office call 435-1BUS.

The Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation Office of Transportation provides transportation services to elementary, middle, and high school students who reside within Vanderburgh County as determined by the administration and approved by the Board of School Trustees. Transportation services may vary due to safety concerns, hazards (ie. road construction), and residential proximity to the school.

Eligibility
Students whose residence is more than one (1) mile from their respective elementary school, one and one half (1 ½) miles from their respective middle school and two (2) miles from their respective high school are eligible for EVSC bus transportation services.

Safety
Routes are reviewed for various safety factors. Considered factors include, but are not limited to, railroad crossings, lack of sidewalks, vicinity of stop in relation to registered sexual offenders, and the volume of traffic on given roads/routes. Students who are dropped off and picked up at their assigned bus stop by parents/guardians will be provided with appropriate drop off and pick up procedures by their students’ home school.

Bus Stops
Regular education bus stops are usually at street corners and should not exceed one half (½) mile from the farthest student’s residence. Home stops may be designated for students with special needs/disabilities as determined by transportation administrative personnel.

Construction/Road Hazards
School buses are not permitted to travel on streets in new developments until said streets are reasonably clear of construction vehicles and/or debris. The Superintendent or his/her designee will make the determination as to when new developments can be safely traveled by school buses.

Turn-Arounds
Buses are not allowed to turn around in private driveways or drive on private lanes/roads without the expressed written permission of the property owner. School buses will not be allowed to travel on streets with no outlet unless there is adequate space available for the bus to safely turn around. Students living on dead-end streets or cul-de-sacs will be required to come to the nearest existing bus stop.

Special Notes
It is important to remember that students remain the responsibility of their parent(s) prior to loading and after disembarking the school bus. Whenever possible, parents are encouraged to supervise their students who may walk to and from bus stops or schools. If the bus stop is not directly in front of a student’s home, then (parental) transportation must be provided for the student to and from the designated bus stop to their residence. The Office of Transportation recommends students arrive to their designated bus stop at least five (5) minutes prior to the buses’ scheduled arrival time. A student will not be transported to or from an alternate location without written permission from a parent/legal guardian, in which case the student’s respective school has provided confirmation of the adult signature. Additionally, transporting students to alternate locations will only be allowed when there is space available on the bus.
